THRILLER 1st Scene Script – FORTY WINKS, by Mitch Moldofsky

Genre: Thriller, Mystery

CAST LIST:

Judge: Charles Gordon
Jazz Singer: Carina Cojeen
Narrator: Ida Jagaric
Pros. Attorney: Rob Notman
Greg: Sean C. Dwyer
Det. Morgan: Jarod Terrell
Carol: Kerrie Lamb

Get to know the writer:

 1. What is your screenplay about?

Forty winks is about the struggle between knowledge and fear, belief and self-doubt. The main character is a scientist, supposedly unemotionally committed to conclusions drawn from years of research, her life’s work. But when this commitment comes into conflict with her beliefs about herself, her marriage and by extension her sense of self worth, it falters, because of a deep and very human insecurity, the possibility or “what if” that she is wrong, that she is unworthy, that she is unloved.

2. What genres does your screenplay fall under?

It’s an erotic thriller and a mystery-drama, but the tension beneath the surface is often superseded by the comedy of life.

3. Why should this screenplay be made into a movie?

It’s exciting and really intriguing with the angle of looking into dreams, the realistic nature of their representation (random, mundane, absurd, frightening), the macabre turn they take in terms of adultery and murder, and the whodunit guessing game between multiple characters.

4. How would you describe this script in two words?

Waking Nightmare

5. What movie have you seen the most times in your life?

Sunset Boulevard

6. How long have you been working on this screenplay?

A year

7. How many stories have you written?

Dozens

8. What is your favorite song? (Or, what song have you listened to the most times in your life?)

You Send Me

9. What obstacles did you face to finish this screenplay?
Getting the third act right

10. Apart from writing, what else are you passionate about?

Women’s rights

11. You entered your screenplay via FilmFreeway. What has been your experiences working with the submission platform site?

Fine

12. What influenced you to enter the festival? What were your feelings on the initial feedback you received?

I like readings. I thought the reader misunderstood my intentions a little.

THRILLER Best Scene Reading, of CONTINENTALIS, by Aurèle N’DJA

CAST LIST:

Gaut – Sean Ballantyne
Benjamin – Hugh Ritchie
Narration – Julie C. Sheppard
Liza – Lada Darewych
May – Victoria Urquhart
Zach – Geoff Mays

Get to know the writer:

1. What is your screenplay about?

The story is set up in a post-apocalyptic drought ridden world; where a man who’s determined to prove his father innocent of a crime he didn’t commit finds himself involved in the very same dirty deeds his father is accused of.

2. What genres does your screenplay fall under?

It’s a sci fi thriller feature screenplay.

3. Why should this screenplay be made into a movie?

I believe the story offers a good entertainment. This screenplay is the first installment of a saga and I think that such a franchise would be welcome by the audience. It treats about teleportation, water resources; and on a human perspective, about trust, love, devotion, self-confidence, betrayal and faith.

4. How would you describe this script in two words?

New world.

5. What movie have you seen the most times in your life?

Die Hard with a Vengeance.

6. How long have you been working on this screenplay?

For the record, I first wrote Continentalis as a novel. It took me two years to build this world in my mind, then on the paper. After a while, I decided to write the screenplay out from the book, and it took me around 6 months to do so. Such exercise is very constructive and exciting, trying to fold a 300-page story into a 100-page screenplay; I learned a lot.

7. How many stories have you written?

5 screenplays in different genres: romantic drama, sci fi, action, thriller, fantastic, horror.

8. What is your favorite song? (Or, what song have you listened to the most times in your life?)

It really depends on the period, if I’m writing or not, how I feel, etc. From time to time I find one song I really like and I can listen to it 12 hours non-stop. For example, the song I’ve been listening to a lot while writing this story is Medicine by The 1975.

9. What obstacles did you face to finish this screenplay?

I faced three major obstacles during the writing:
I’m French, and not being a native English speaker appeared to be quite challenging in finding the right words to make the dialogues feel natural and smooth,

This screenplay being an adaptation, it was heart-breaking to cut some scenes I enjoyed writing in the book but were not crucial in the film. The difficulty was to keep certain coherence in adjusting the story to fit a reasonable screen time,

Being a sci fi story, it’s a challenge to describe sci fi elements (e.g. technology) in a screenplay so they can be understood just looking at it, rather than explaining their functioning in a book paragraph.

10. Apart from writing, what else are you passionate about?

Spending time with my family.

Get to know the writer:

 1. What is your screenplay about?
After being evicted from her home, a promiscuous young woman is forced into a life of crime, aiding her companions in committing armed robberies, but when she has a change of heart and needs to find a way out, fear and desperation keep her at their side.

2. What genres does your screenplay fall under?
My screenplay falls under Action/Crime/Thriller genres.

3. Why should this screenplay be made into a movie?
This screenplay should be made into a movie because no one is doing anything like it right now; three, young, African-American, women go on a vicious crime spree for reasons other than being poor. This screenplay is about liberation, redemption and revenge.

4. How would you describe this script in two words?
I would describe this script as powerful and riveting.

5. What movie have you seen the most times in your life?
A movie that I have seen the most times in my life is The Color Purple.

6. How long have you been working on this screenplay?
I have worked on this screenplay for 3 years.

most times in your life?)

I really don’t have a favorite song. However, I listen to R & B songs pretty much all the time.

9. What obstacles did you face to finish this screenplay?
I don’t face any obstacles finishing. This screenplay is completed!

10. Apart from writing, what else are you passionate about?
Besides writing, I am passionate about producing and directing.
